A window installation for Objectspace, Christine Butler's deliberately oversized Lei acknowledge both ‘the Pacific Islands and the imported early European practice of embellishing doors, frames, architraves and windows.'
Lei for Walls is a new work in which Butler has employed domestic craft techniques including crochet and sewing together with colorful plastics to reflect upon colonial architectural history and the cultural melting pot which is contemporary New Zealand.
Christine Butler has been practicing creatively in various media for over twenty years and is based in the Northland region.
