Blue Black’s ceramic practice is the exploration of an organic process of expression. The work evolves from found and discarded materials, dipped in clay slip and then fired. Black’s social and cultural positioning as a transgender man contributes to the interplay of binary opposites within the work, creating tension, the work amalgamates the polarities of control and disorder.
Blue Black has been practicing for over 20 years, and was a finalist in the Portage Ceramic Awards in 2014. Black holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Otago Polytechnic School of Art, in Dunedin.
