Objectspace Talkfest 2014

Event / 04 July 2014

Our 2014 Talkfest will have a new format and is presented in association with Auckland Museum, at the Museum.  Key note speaker is Benjamin Lignel from France. Ben is an internationally respected writer and curator, as well as practitioner, who is at the leading edge of thinking about contemporary jewellery and craft on the global stage. He is currently the Editor of Art Jewelry Forum and a member of Think Tank: A European Initiative for the Crafts. His keynote Difference and Repetition will examine the tension between the singular and generic in contemporary craft. Ben has been brought to New Zealand through Creative New Zealand’s Te Manu Ka Tau programme.

On the evening of 4 July the Talkfest will kick off with another fun-filled Pecha Kucha event, which begins at 7.30pm. (note this is the correct time - not 6.30 as mentioned in the programme). However, for those arriving earlier, Auckland Museum has organised a 30-40min tour through the Applied Arts Collection with Curator, Finn McCahon-Jones. The tour will begin at 6.30pm.

Pecha Kucha is an event format in which presenters show a slideshow of 20 images, each of which is shown for 20 seconds — giving a total presentation time of 6 minutes 40 seconds. Last year’s topics ranged from hi top sneakers to collecting perforated objects to a maker’s most recent project. This year has an another exciting lineup.
